Additional Information:
I have been divorced for 9 years and as part of the separation agreement, I got the house. How do I get my ex-husband removed from my house deed? One of our lawyers was supposed to take care of this but it never happened. I have contacted my lawyer numerous times over the years to no avail. What do I need to do to get this taken care of?
ATTORNEY ANSWER:
The Divorce Agreement should contain a provision requiring both parties to cooperate with one another and execute all documents necessary to carry out the Agreement’s provisions. Assuming that, you and your ex-husband need simply to execute a Deed from both of you to you individually. If he balks, a Complaint for Contempt is appropriate. Bring your Divorce Agreement and the Deed to your house when you consult with a new attorney. This matter should be resolved quickly and inexpensively.
